The Carolyne Connection First Ever Edition
Mother's Day ~ May 2008 |
|
|
|
Here it is - mother's day - and I am so inpsired I couldn't sleep any more - I wanted to get up and finish this note that I started last night.
Thanks Mom for your love of information gathering that you passed on to me and thanks to everyone that is receiving this today - you are all amazing women - either someone's mother or mentor and the daughter of someone who helped you to become who you are today. We have so many gifts to share with each other - we are fortunate indeed!
So - once an idea gets in motion it just keeps moving ...early in March I started to think about what I do best and one of things I do is connect people - so I came up with three words that I felt described what I do in my business and in my life overall - those three words are: Connect, Create and Communicate.
Then, on Thursday night, as a group interacted at the BC HRMA mingle some of them realized they had met before at various things that I had organized . . . walking around Elk Lake a couple of years ago, and then another at the Run for the Cure - and many of them have connected at one of my Soul in a Bowl parties. There was laughter and then Heather said "It's the Carolyne connection."
And I loved it! And a day later I've registered the domain name and created a place that I can put all the great things that people tell me about, I experience or I read about somewhere.
My intention is for this to be Victoria and southern Vancouver Island based and to include health & wellness topics and events - things that don't necessarily fit in my 24 Carrot Learning or Roaring Women newsletter.
I have 'subscribed' you to receive this when I send it out - I don't know how often that will be - if you would forward it to your friends I'd be honoured if they would like to receive it too click here to subscribe

|
|
PLEASE
Tell me what you think - I am sending this first edition to you to get your thoughts - here is what I'd like to know:
- should I keep doing this
- is it worthwhile
- what do you think of the name "The Carolyne Connection"
- would you forward it to your friends and ask them to subscribe
- what do you think i should include in this
- any ideas or suggestions?
- Do you have anything that I can include in the next one?
Thank you for your feedback - just hit 'reply' and tell me what you think - all thoughts are welcome!

| Something real about Mother's Day! |
| The poem below was sent to me by my friend Cathy McKenzie in May 1999.
There is something so powerful in these words - always makes me cry (in a good way). My little boy flies home from Texas tomorrow - best mother's day gift I could get!
I am so proud of my son Russell - this photo was taken in March in Laredo Texas.

The 24 Carrot Learning website was developed because there is an abundance of training and learning opportunities for adult professionals, this website acts as a portal for individuals and organizations to locate consultants, coaches, workshops, associations and more - kind of like the 'yellow pages of learning opportunities". At 24 Carrot Learning we live our motto to "learn one new thing each day" and we strive to make this easy for folks to access the resources to do this very thing! Our newsletter is filled with ideas, articles and a calendar of events.
Roaring Women is dedicated to showcasing business women who have great stories to tell. The Victoria Chapter of Roaring Women began in September 2007 and the turn-out and enthusiasm for this group has been excellent. Speakers have ranged from topics on marketing, to organization to the power of intention. In addition to our regular monthly networking meetings we host a more informal 'walk and talk' networking group on a monthly basis.
The Alliance of Professional Associations (APA) is an informal Victoria-based network of professional organizations that is committed to working together to individually and collectively increase the profile and effectiveness of the associations through shared information and resources. A monthly calendar is an initiative of the Alliance and is distributed via the participating associations to their members to share information on upcoming events and promote networking and collaboration in Greater Victoria.

| Friday's Dinner Choice |
Friday night dinner was a treat! Not only was the company we were in amazing but the food, wine and service has us all wanting to come back - and tell our friends! This restaurant came under new ownership in July 2007 and Chris and Diane Richardson, the owners are an absolute pleasure!
Their website tells their story, shows their menues and provides you with their address etc. It's about a 20 minute drive from Victoria out to the Mt. Newton Valley area but well worth every minute.

| Makeovers & Martinis |
I held my first ever makeovers and martinis party this past week - what a blast!
Everyone enjoyed some snacks, a martini or a glass of wine and worked with a consultant to choose the makeup colours that were best suited for them. We had a mini-facial and lots of fun networking and laughter while new friends met and old friends reacquainted.
These are going to be a regular event on my calendar because after attending an event on Monday night at the Ocean Pointe Resort and learning more about Arbonne (a fabulous Swiss skin-care line that I have been using for months now), I was so inspired by the women that spoke (and I was already sold on the product) that I decided that I was going to be standing on that stage one day speaking about my success as an Arbonne consultant. They say the only way to reach your dreams is by putting it out there to the universe and asking your friends to help you so that is what I am doing.
I had booked this makeover party before my decision on Monday so I was the host of this party - do you know that I received $480 dollars in products for only $96 - plus a lot of other free stuff - and I had a great time!
So - I am asking for your help to reach my goals - please host a martini party at your house - I'll provide the first martini - you invite six of your friends - everyone will have a facial and experience this amazing anti-aging skin care product, we'll choose your colours and you'll get to try the mineral makeup that makes you look flawless.
Please send me an email to find out more or all me on my cell at 920.6399 carolyne@24carrotlearning.com

| Snap Victoria |
Volume 1 - Number 1 was published last week in Victoria and is flying off the stands. This is a fantastic publication that captures life and entertainment in Victoria. I have had the pleasure of meeting Publisher Paula Smith twice now - what a lovely lady! She works with a team of her husband Chris Smith and Editor Kirby Brame. Basically, you go online and submit your event (good news only) on their website at www.snapvictoria.com and they will come out and take photos - this is so popular already I'm not sure how they'll keep up with all the great stuff that is happening in Victoria but WOW - let's watch them go! | |

| Mother of the Year? |
This is for all the Mothers who didn't win Mother of the Year.
All the runners up and all the wannabes. The mothers too tired to enter or too busy to care. This is for all the mothers who froze their buns off on metal bleachers at soccer games Friday night instead of watching from cars, so that when their kids asked, "Did you see my goal?" they could say "Of course, wouldn't have missed it for the world," and mean it. This is for all the mothers who have sat up all night with sick toddlers in their arms, wiping up barf laced with Oscar Mayar wieners and cherry Cool-Aid saying "It's OK honey, Mommy's here." This is for all the mothers of Kosovo who fled in the night and can't find their children.
This is for the mothers who gave birth to babies they'll never see. And the mothers who took those babies and made them homes. For all the mothers who run carpools and make cookies and sew Halloween costumes. And all the mothers who don't.
What makes a good mother anyway? Is it patience? Compassion? Broad hips? The ability to nurse a baby, fry a chicken, and sew a button on a shirt all at the same time? Or is it heart? Is it the ache you feel when you watch your son disappear down the street, walking to school alone for the very first time? The jolt that takes you from sleep to dread, from bed to crib at 2 am to put your hand on the back of a sleeping baby? The need to flee from wherever you are and hug your child when you hear news of a school shooting, a fire, a car accident, a young person dying? I think so.
So this is for all the mothers who sat down with their children and explained all about making babies. And for all the mothers who wanted to but just couldn't. This is for reading "Goodnight Moon" twice a night for a year. And then reading it again, "just one more time". This is for all the mothers who mess up. Who yell at their kids in the grocery store and swat them in despair and stop their feet like a tired 2 year old who wants ice cream before dinner.
This is for all the mothers who taught their daughters to tie their shoelaces before they started school. And for all the mothers who opted for Velcro instead. For all the mothers who bite their lips - sometimes until they bleed - when their 14 year olds dye their hair green. Who lock themselves in the bathroom when their babies keep crying and won't stop. This is for the mothers who show up at work with spit-up in their hair and milk stains on their blouses and diapers in their purse.
This is for all the mothers who teach their sons to cook and their daughters to sink a jump shot. This is for all the mothers whose heads turn automatically when they hear a voice call "Mom" in a crowd, even though they know their own offspring are at home.
This is for mothers who put pinwheels and teddy bears on their children's graves.
This is for mothers whose children have gone astray, and who can't find the words to reach them.
This is for all the mothers who sent their sons to school with stomach aches, assuring them they'd be just find once they got there, only to get calls from the school nurse an hour later asking them to please pick them up. Right away. This is for young mothers stumbling through diaper changes and sleep deprivation. And mature mothers learning to let go. For working mothers and stay-at-home mothers. Single mothers and married mothers. Mothers with money, mothers without. This is for you all. So hang in there. Better luck next year. I'll be rooting for you.
