Learning with Books

Carolyne Taylor

If you are anything like me, you have a stack of books waiting to be read, on topics and ideas that are of great interest - or maybe they just had a fabulous cover! At any rate, here are some topics and ideas to get through the stack and start getting some return on your investment.

  1. Get a reading buddy - choose a book together and meet each month to discuss what you have learned, and how you are applying your learning.
  2. Read one book at a time.
  3. Use post-it flags to mark areas you'd like to refer back to.
  4. Carry a small notebook to jot down ideas that come to you as you read.
  5. Use the exercises that are provided in books to make positive changes - pick one thing and do it for 21 days to make it a habit.
  6. Set aside time each day to read one chapter.
  7. Look at different options for reading, these include audio books, podcasts, books in brief and more.
  8. And finally, if you are a third of the way through a book and it hasn't grabbed you,k let someone else learn from that book and pick up another one - it may just not be the book for you, and there are so many more to choose from!

Happy Reading!
